deep-R stands for deep rolling and is a surface hardening process developed by ACONA in collaboration with research institutes.
With our process, we strengthen the weld seams of your hydraulic cylinder and thus eliminate the weakest point. As a result, the cylinders can be designed to be slimmer, withstand higher forces or be used for longer.
The optimised performance data of a deep-R cylinder leads to an improved carbon footprint compared to conventional welded constructions. Although there have been many innovations in recent years, the sustainable production of hydraulic cylinders has long been a challenge.
With our process, we have mastered the challenge.
The formula for success of deep-R?
To develop our deep-R technology, we combined tried-and-tested methods with the latest calculation methods in cooperation with Wirsing Industrial Research.
We also had the effectiveness of our method tested and empirically confirmed by the machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University.

deep-R was developed by us to make hydraulic cylinders more sustainable and increase their performance.
Hydraulic cylinders mainly require steel in their production and therefore cause a lot of CO₂. We want to counteract this with our deep-R process.
The significant opportunity for climate protection was also recognised by a jury of experts for the renowned ‘Best of Industry Award’, which is presented annually by the trade journal ‘MM MaschinenMarkt’.

With deep-R, we have succeeded in doubling the operating time of hydraulic cylinders, which inevitably leads to a longer service life for your new products. However, you do not only benefit from planned new designs. By optimising existing hydraulic cylinder designs, we ensure that the service life of your products is extended. The use of deep-R technology therefore also enables existing machines to be optimised in line with a sustainable basic concept.
Hydraulic cylinders are without question a key component of the hydraulic system: as ‘the engine’, they have to deliver enormous performance in all industrial applications. deep-R hydraulic cylinders represent a technological innovation. With the same dimensions, our process offers you an increase in performance of up to 25 % for your products. For example, we have succeeded in increasing the operating pressure of an existing hydraulic cylinder from 350 bar to 430 bar.
Our technology offers a unique solution to date: Compared to conventional technology, we can offer solutions that require significantly less material and installation space. Up to 35 % less volume and weight can be achieved with the same performance. For you, this means that your machines become smaller, but do not lose performance! This results in significant advantages for your machine design, especially for new developments.

Your quality requirements are very important to us. It was therefore particularly important to us to have deep-R validated by a reputable organisation. The Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL), a research institute of the RWTH Aachen University, has extensively tested the effectiveness of our deep-R process in a series of tests lasting several months. This was fully confirmed.
