Whether in presses, steelworks, aerospace, or construction machinery – hydraulic cylinders deliver powerful precision work everywhere. However, even a short failure can interrupt the entire production flow and simultaneously endanger the safety of people and machines.
At ACONA, we have therefore established a quality management system that works along the entire value chain – from the initial design idea to regular maintenance. In addition, we are certified according to ISO 9001:2015.
This ensures that every single cylinder delivers top performance reliably in everyday use, and that you can always rely on maximum availability, predictable maintenance windows, and comprehensive safety.
Process safety from engineering to final inspection
At ACONA, quality starts long before actual production begins: As early as the planning stage of the hydraulic cylinder, we use efficient engineering to precisely map your operating conditions. We apply FEM calculations, FKM stress assessments, and design according to established standards.
We are happy to provide you with the corresponding comprehensive and valid calculation reports upon request, in compliance with relevant standards such as DNV, FKM, and DIN EN.
We optimise wall thicknesses, sealing systems, and surfaces to eliminate critical stress peaks, reduce weight, and simultaneously guarantee safety.
Quality assurance in manufacturing
Unsere hohen Qualitätsstandards begleitet jeden weiteren Schritt:
-
1.Material incoming inspection
Batch-specific material certificates, such as 3.1 according to DIN, are archived. Only approved materials are used for the production of hydraulic cylinders.
-
2.Manufacturing
Detailed work plans are created for each component and assembly in the planning tool. Progress, degree of completion, and finished work are reported digitally every day. The scope and type of quality control are part of the detailed work plan. Checklists and inspection records ensure that all components are manufactured correctly and documented accordingly.
-
3.Assembly
Before final assembly, a final inspection of all parts and components is carried out. Only then is assembly approved.
-
4.Final acceptance
Each cylinder undergoes 100% functional, pressure, and leak testing; all test records are securely archived and provided upon request.
Custom test procedures and scopes are implemented upon request. For this purpose, several pressure test benches as well as various measuring devices and sensors are available.
For the inspection of parts and components, we offer among others the following test methods:
Dimensional measurement
Coating thickness measurement (e.g., on piston rods or other coatings)
Surface roughness measurements
Hardness testing
Dye penetrant testing
Ultrasonic testing (e.g., for weld seams)
Magnetic particle testing (e.g., for threads)
Gloss level measurement (e.g., for lacquer finishes)
Thanks to this comprehensive—and for you always traceable—documentation, quality assurance shifts from merely “passing a test” to continuously preventing errors. This means that only a cylinder leaves our plant which precisely matches your specifications and already proves it will operate reliably in use.
For the final acceptance of hydraulic cylinders, we offer, among others, the following scopes:
Testing according to ISO10100 Fluid technology – Hydraulic cylinders – Acceptance testing
Inspection certificate 3.1 according to EN 10204
Pressure tests under adjustable conditions
Dimensional measurement
Volume flow measurement
Continuous measurement of hydraulic oil quality/purity
Temperature measurement
Tests of coating quality (layer thickness, gloss level, adhesion, etc.)
"Measuring and testing instruments are only as precise as the tool itself—and the person operating them."
Therefore, all measuring and testing equipment at ACONA is subject to systematic, regular inspection and calibration. Seamless monitoring is carried out via a digital management system that documents all test intervals and certificates.
In addition, we conduct regular training courses to ensure that our employees use the measuring and testing equipment professionally and reliably.
Sustainability & customer benefits
For us, sustainability and quality are inextricably linked: the longer a hydraulic cylinder operates without malfunction, the fewer spare parts, downtime, and resources are required.
This is where our deep-R process comes in. By selectively hardening the weld seams, deep-R demonstrably extends the service life of the cylinders while also enabling a more streamlined design. By using less material, we not only keep an eye on the CO₂ balance, but also reduce the transport weight and the associated energy consumption along the entire supply chain.
Added to this is our location advantage: planning, production, and maintenance take place entirely in Herzogenrath near Aachen. The short distances between engineering, production, and service reduce logistics costs, shorten delivery times, and facilitate fast response times in the event of maintenance.
The result is clear added value for you: higher plant availability, predictable hydraulic cylinder repairs, reduced total operating costs, and a measurable contribution to your company-wide sustainability goals.
Occupational safety as the foundation for quality
Outstanding manufacturing quality begins with a safe working environment. Only those who can rely on their health and surroundings can fully concentrate on precision and performance. At ACONA, occupational safety is therefore not a secondary aspect but a fundamental pillar of our understanding of quality.
To ensure this level of safety in the long term, we conduct regular structured safety meetings. In these sessions, we analyze recent incidents together with our employees, identify potential improvements, and define concrete actions. The goal is to continuously develop working conditions and detect and minimize possible risks at an early stage.
A central component of our safety culture is training that addresses both legal requirements and practical recommendations. In addition, we provide personal protective equipment such as individually fitted hearing protection and high-quality safety glasses, as well as ergonomic work tools and clearly marked safety zones. All these measures aim to offer our employees a reliable and safe working environment in which they can fully apply their skills.
Because we are convinced: only those who feel safe can deliver top performance every day—and thus deliver the quality that ACONA stands for.
